Performing the Image

In the first chapter of the thesis entitled Dance on Screen, I mention my early experiments with multimedia performances which integrated live performance and the projection of photographic images. I have found that the interrelation between live performance and projected stills is an ongoing creative and evolving process which I can identify in current works that are based on the interaction of live performance and digital images. In the thesis, I have made clear distinctions between works that contain the element of live performance and works that can be performed as screen-based events only. Although, these are different types of performances, they are united by a strong performative impulse that runs through modern and postmodern art and culture.
